Two years before Warner Bros. and Tim Burton’s gothic take on Batman, director Paul Verhoeven and writers Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner got the ball rolling for adult comic-strip entertainment with this fast-paced, thrilling cocktail of sci-fi, action and satire.  Peter Weller is the ill-fated  Murphy who is reincarnated as Detroit’s no-nonsense, hi-tech solution to crime after a savage mutilation by king thug Kurtwood Smith and his gang of rogues.  Director Paul Verhoeven’s film is fast, funny and fantastic.
