Writer-Director M. Night Shalyaman hit the big time with this creepy, ingenious modern-day classic.  Haley Joel Osment is the withdrawn youngster whose disturbing behaviour brings him to the attention of troubled child psychologist Bruce Willis.  Shalyaman reworks old ideas and methods to great effect whilst Willis, Osment and Toni Collete (as the boy’s grief-stricken mother) make memorable casting. The surprise twist-in-the-tail is the icing on the cake for a brilliant thriller that has enough guts and style to rank along the best in the genre.
